The Last Pirate Queen

Video Game / Work in Progress

This is the tale of Arianna Tanner, a mercenary-turned-pirate thrust into extraordinary circumstances. When her first job under the Pirate Queen, Nerina Salucci, goes belly-up, Arianna finds herself in the middle of a web of plots and mysteries woven by a dozen different forces. What you do, what you say, who you befriend, and who you antagonize all play a part in this story. Who is the last Pirate Queen? Only time will tell.

The Last Pirate Queen pulls inspiration from many familiar games and systems. It has a personalized skill line system to replace the traditional system of gaining skills upon level-up. A strategic battle system allows for slower-paced, tactical fights that focus on taking advantage of enemy's weaknesses. Vast collections and hidden quests are scattered throughout the lands you travel, encouraging exploration and replayability. I wanted to pay homage to some of the greatest games of my childhood while improving upon their systems, creating a game that was both fun and thought-provoking.

This is a personal project; one of great value and importance to me. I grew up on this style of game - of crews of motley loners turned into heroes, of grand quests and high stakes. However, choice rarely played a part. The actors knew their parts well, but they knew little else. There are, of course, limitations, but I wanted to take a page from modern game storytelling and provoide choice and concequences to players in a familiar package.

I'm the sole creator of The Last Pirate Queen. The art direction, game design, and writing are all mine. Music and many graphical resources are pulled from community efforts, provided for free to aspiring game makers as long as credit was given.
